REOPENING LANDS AND RECREATION

Goose Pasture Campground

The District will reopen Goose Pasture Campground at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28.  The primitive campground on the Wacissa River in Jefferson County near Monticello, FL is first-come-first-served with no facilities.  The group campsites are by reservation only to groups of ten or less campers.  Reservations can be made by calling the District at 386-362-1001 or 800-226-1066 (FL toll free) or email recreation@srwmd.org.


J.H. Anderson, Jr. Memorial Park

The District and Alachua Conservation Trust will reopen J. H. Anderson, Jr. Memorial Park – Rock Bluff Springs at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28.

The District reminds visitors to follow all social distancing and health advisories to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

BE PREPARED FOR HURRICANE SEASON

Hurricane season starts June 1. Are you prepared? Check out the supply list below and stock up on any items your family would need. Secure loose debris on your property and schedule a tree company to remove any hazards if needed. It never hurts to be prepare and have supplies on hand!


The essentials:
•    Important medications for family members
•    Cash on hand
•    Batteries and/or portable chargers
•    A way to obtain information (smart phone or weather radio)
•    Enough food and water for each person for at least a week

RIVER COST-SHARE FUNDING APPLICATION DEADLINE

The District has developed a cost-share program to assist county governments, municipalities, water supply authorities, and other interested entities with a cost-share program for projects that enhance or address the District's core mission of managing water supply, water quality, flood protection, and natural systems. The Regional Initiative Valuing Environmental Resources (RIVER) cooperative funding program provides an opportunity to obtain cost-share funding for projects that foster the District's core mission.

The RIVER Application and Guidance documents are now available on our website:

Applications must be submitted to the District by 5:00 pm on JUNE 16, 2020. The application is an online form.  Projects that were submitted previously that did not receive a cost-share agreement will need to be submitted on the new form for consideration in this funding cycle.

Do you need some tips and tricks on how to conserve water in your home? Minor changes to your routine can help protect our springs and rivers.

  • Fix leaky toilets, faucets and pipes.
  • Limit showers to five minutes or less.
  • Only water your landscape when it is needed.
  • Use sprinklers with automatic timers.

How high is the river in your area? With increased rainfall in south Georgia, river levels have been higher than usual in some areas. The Current River and Lake Levels page is updated every 1-2 hours. Check out the river levels on our website to be prepared!
