[ARCHIVED] Multiple SRWMD lands to close due to Hurricane Ian impacts

LIVE OAK, FLA., SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) on Wednesday announced the closure of some District lands due to inclement weather from Hurricane Ian.

District lands closing at noon on Wednesday, September 28, include all of those in Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Union, and coastal Jefferson and Taylor counties.

These sites will remain closed until further notice.

The District has signed an order initiating emergency operations in response to Hurricane Ian following Executive Order 22-219 released by Governor Ron DeSantis on September 24, 2022. The order grants the District authority to execute land and office closures, open water control structures, assist local governments with storm preparation, and administer other emergency duties. A copy of the signed order can be found here.

The District will continue to provide updates through web notices and social media postings. Local residents are encouraged to complete storm preparations and monitor real-time rainfall and real-time river and lake levels at the District’s website, www.MySuwanneeRiver.com, located under the Science & Data tab, to help make informed decisions about their area.

The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. The District holds true to the belief of water for nature, water for people. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
