LIVE OAK, FLA., AUGUST 26, 2025– Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced the reappointment of Virginia Johns to the Suwannee River Water Management District (District) Governing Board.
Johns serves as the Governing Board chair and is from Alachua County. She has served on the board since March 2012.
“We are pleased that Gov. DeSantis has reappointed Chair Johns to our Governing Board,” said Hugh Thomas, Executive Director of the District. “Her leadership over the years has been vital to our agency and we look forward to continuing that good work under her direction.”
This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Johns is the Vice President of John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Company. Active in her community, she serves as a member of the City of Alachua Planning and Zoning Board, the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association, and the Builders Association of North Central Florida. Johns earned her associate degree from Santa Fe College and an interior design degree from Bauder College.
The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
