LIVE OAK, FLA., Apr. 15, 2019 – Small changes in homes and businesses can make a large, collective impact on water conservation. The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) is celebrating April as Water Conservation Month to bring awareness to the importance of conserving water and to challenge partners and residents to save water.
“Over 90 percent of the District relies on the Floridan aquifer for drinking water,” said Hugh Thomas, Executive Director of the District. “It is critical for us to protect this important resource by implementing water conservation techniques to reduce our overall water use.”
The District is also asking cities and counties in the region to recognize April as Water Conservation Month. The cities and counties are encouraged to educate their residents about how to conserve water and why it is important to conserve. Some tips on reducing water use include:
• Taking a shower that is less than 5 minutes long.
• Turning off the faucet when it is not being used.
• Washing larger loads of laundry at one time.
• Using a dishwasher instead of the sink to wash dishes.
