LIVE OAK, FLA., AUGUST 15, 2023 – Meetings to review the new preliminary flood-risk maps for the Alapaha and Aucilla watersheds – which includes portions of Hamilton, Jefferson, and Madison counties – will take place this week.
These meetings will allow residents to ask questions regarding their property’s flood-risk status and review the proposed changes. Maps are revised periodically to educate and assist property owners with updated and current information on their risk of flooding.
A meeting to review the Aucilla flood maps will take place in Greenville on Wednesday at the Greenville Senior Center (166 SW Onslow Street). This watershed includes parts of Jefferson and Madison counties. On Thursday, a meeting will take place at Jasper Civic Center (1129 NW 4th Street, Jasper) to review the Alapaha flood maps.
Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m. Residents can arrive any time before 8 pm as there is not a scheduled presentation.
Representatives from the Suwannee River Water Management District (District) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to discuss the ongoing development of flood risk maps for the region.
The District is seeking to inform residents, along with city and county officials, of the new preliminary flood risk maps. The preliminary maps are expected to become effective next year.
